If you are receiving cancer treatment or are a cancer survivor, you may need special care for your heart. Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ’s Cardio-Oncology Program helps cancer patients and survivors live full, vibrant lives by protecting their quality of life and long-term heart function before, during, and after cancer treatment. Using the latest imaging technology and research, our doctors prevent heart damage, make efforts to detect any problems as early as possible, and carefully manage your specific condition.
Our program has been recognized by the International Cardio-Oncology Society as a Center of Excellence, at the Gold Level, the highest- level recognition.
Our team’s priority is for you to receive the best possible treatment for your cancer, minimizing the short- and long-term risks to your heart health.
Your cardio-oncologist will work closely with your medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, surgical oncologist, and other medical team members throughout your cancer treatment and lifetime as a survivor. We recognize that cancer treatment can be complex and overwhelming, and we pride ourselves on our strength as leaders in facilitating multidisciplinary, patient-centered communication and care.
Your cardio-oncologist will first evaluate you closely and may recommend specific heart tests to better understand your heart health, such as blood tests, an EKG, a heart ultrasound (echocardiogram) or a cardiac MRI. Your cardio-oncologist will then develop a personalized treatment plan for you based on your heart evaluation, cancer treatment plans, lifestyle goals, family history, and overall health.
Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ partners with NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, one of the top hospital systems in New York City and the U.S. When you choose Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ, you have access to a network of expert doctors and specialists. Advancements in cancer treatments, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy and radiation therapy, have significantly improved cancer survivorship rates. However, these treatments can sometimes cause heart damage or worsen a heart condition that existed before cancer treatment. This is referred to as cardiotoxicity, cancer treatments’ cardiovascular risks and toxic effects on the heart.
Our Cardio-Oncology Program helps you protect your heart from side effects so you can complete your life-prolonging cancer therapy. Our team also helps manage your long-term heart health after your complete cancer treatment.
